GEORGETOWN, Texas — Williamson County’s Tax Assessor-Collector’s Office is now led by Catherine Totty, who was appointed by Commissioners Court after longtime officeholder Larry Gaddes resigned to take a position with the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles.
The county announced June 12 that Gaddes’ resignation had been accepted and that Commissioners Court would appoint a replacement to serve until the next general election. The county said the November 2026 ballot will determine who serves the remainder of the term ending Dec. 31, 2028.
How the appointment happened
Commissioners Court publicly considered the appointment process in July. On July 14, the court voted to appoint Totty, and she began serving July 21.
According to Williamson County, Totty brought more than 25 years of experience in banking, lending, financial services and operations. Her background includes leadership roles involving financial transactions, regulatory compliance, customer service and staff operations.
Why the office matters
The Tax Assessor-Collector is a countywide office responsible for major public-facing functions involving property taxes, motor-vehicle registration and related services. Because the office is normally elective, the appointment is temporary rather than a substitute for the voters’ decision.
The county states that local Democratic and Republican party executive committees will nominate candidates for the November ballot, and voters will elect a person to complete the unexpired term.
